Patrick Betty
Kia Ora my name is Patrick Betty, I am a company Director, Business owner and Technologist living in paradise that is Mahau Sound.
I have lived all over New Zealand originally from the Horowhenua educated in the Hawkes Bay and have resided in Northland, The Waikato, South Canterbury, Central and North Otago.
I have a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology from Massey University in Palmerston North.
I have a confectionery Business in Oamaru and have been in the confectionery game since 1986, i.e., nearly 40 years.
I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout New Zealand and around the world. However, nothing beats Aotearoa New Zealand.
We found a property in Mahau Sound in 2016 and decided this is where we wanted to live. The building of our house was finally completed and we moved in 2020.
I have known the team at Farewell Trust socially for a couple of years.
I have been at the bedside of my sister and Father and recently my wife in 2024 when they passed away.
It’s an experience like no other and to have people guiding you through the process of death softens the blow when it finally occurs.
To guide a family through the process the people must have amazing skills ie great communication, a great listener, non-judgemental, be gracious, caring, thoughtful, helpful and empathetic.
It takes a special type of person to guide a person and their family through an end-of-life scenario.
The Farewell Trust Team have got all the attributes needed in my view.
So when I was asked to join the board of Trustees, I had no hesitation in accepting.
As a Charity there will be certain challenges the Board will need to overcome BUT this will not change the operational side of the Farewell Trust which will continue to give support and care to the people of the Marlborough Sounds.
